New Emergency Meditation Focus: Amazon wildfires

There have been many wildfires across the world over the past few months.

Wildfires raging in the Amazon rainforest have also hit a record high number this year.

The Brazilian state of Amazonas has declared an emergency in the south of the state and in its capital Manaus over the blazes. Images have also shown the northernmost state of Roraima covered in dark smoke. Acre, on the border of Peru, has been on environmental alert since Friday, August 16th.

On Monday, 19th August, the city of Sao Paulo went dark from the smoke that has traveled from the fires blazing in the Brazilian states of Rondônia and Amazonas and blackened the sky above the city for about an hour.

An estimated measure done by Express.co.uk shows approximately 640 million acres have been affected by the fire. Based on Google’s alert system, the area surrounded by the fire covers more than half of Brazil.

This map from InfoAmazonia reveals the staggering extent of the wildfires raging across Brazil as of 12:45 PM UTC on Wednesday, August 21st. The red dots on the chart indicate fires burning within the last 24 hours, while the yellow shading shows where the most intense blazes are burning right at the time the satellite image was taken.

Wildfires often occur in the dry season in Brazil, but this year has been worse than normal, according to INPE (Brazil's National Institute of Space Research,) which also said the large number of wildfires could not be attributed to the dry season or natural phenomena alone. In addition, fires are deliberately started in efforts to illegally deforest land for cattle ranching. INPE recorded an 84% increase in fires in Brazil between 2018 and 2019, most in the Amazon rainforest.

The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests and comprises the largest and most biodiverse tract of tropical rainforest in the world. The rainforest has been in existence for at least 55 million years. An estimated 390bn individual trees divided into 16,000 species have their home in the forest.

According to WorldAtlas.com, the Amazon rainforest is home to more than 2,000 species of animals: there are 427 mammal species, 1,300 bird species, 378 species of reptiles, and more than 400 species of amphibians.

Therefore, we suggest adding this wildfire situation in the Amazon rainforest to our daily Emergency Meditation at 2 PM UTC as well.

Same as the other wildfires, you can visualize these numerous wildfires being brought under control and contained as soon as possible.

You can also build a Buddhic Column upon the Amazon rainforest during the daily Buddhic Column meditation at 3:30 PM UTC, to help purify the dark energy and negative anomaly generated from the wildfires.
